A severe storm quickly develops catching three fishermen on off guard in the open ocean.
They are in danger of sinking and need help, fast! Who will come to their rescue?
Dolph, a Coast Guard HH-65 “Dolphin” rescue helicopter and his pilot, Gwen, quickly respond to save the three men in distress.
But the mission is not easy.
Courage, team work, and trusting the team to do their jobs are essential.
In order to get to the sinking boat as quickly as possible, they must fly directly into the storm to reach the men in time.
Flying into the strong storm makes Dolph and Gwen very nervous.
They must trust each other, work as a team, and show courage to save the men who are in danger of drowning.
Dolph, Gwen, the Rescue Swimmer (Sam), and the Flight Mech (Mike) work together to accomplish the mission, even while facing additional unexpected challenges.
Background:
I am a retired U.S. Coast Guard Commander with 25 years of U.S. military service, having flown helicopters for both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Coast Guard.
The stories in my book series, “The Coast Guard Adventures of Dolph and Gwen”, are based on actual search and rescue missions flown by me in a HH-65 Dolphin helicopter.
My granddaughter (the real-life Gwen) whose love of books, and things that fly, has been a huge inspiration to write my Children’s Books and a Memoir.
My love of storytelling, and my sometimes-exciting flight experiences, have been a major source of inspiration for talking to kids about courage in the face of adversity, team work and trust.
Doing visits to schools is my Author activity.
I live near Olympia, WA, have been married (40+ years), the father of two and grandpa of one.
A bit more:
After writing a Memoir several teachers I work with suggested I write about some of my “adventures” as a Children’s Picture Book.
I also had my granddaughter in mind was I wrote this first story.
I wanted her to have a better understanding of what her Grandpa did while serving in the Coast Guard.
The story is true, however I decided to tell it with a female as the pilot, so my granddaughter, and other girls, would have a role model in what has been a male dominated occupation.
However, that is changing, albeit slowly.
